Blog 8/ The Twilight Shift: When Sodom Meets the Boardroom
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
1. Welcome to the Twilight Shift
Imagine a city where the neon never sleeps and the hearts have forgotten how to rest.
The emails hum like insects at midnight, the smiles are mechanical, and compassion has gone missing.
You can almost hear a Rod Serling voice-over:
“Submitted for your approval — a place of polished manners and hollow souls, where truth is measured in productivity and mercy is a liability.”
Welcome to the Twilight Shift — that strange dimension between good intentions and godless routine, where the spirit grows tired of pretending everything is fine.
2. When Sodom Meets the Boardroom
It glitters like progress, but it smells like smoke.
Policies praise equity while hearts practice exclusion.
Decisions are made in conference rooms that echo like empty temples.
“Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah.” — Genesis 19:24
We are not standing in ancient streets of salt and ash, yet the spirit of Sodom still rents office space.
It whispers that comfort is success and conscience is outdated.
It tells the faithful to stay silent, to blend in, to laugh when holiness makes them uncomfortable.
But light has never belonged to darkness.
And those who walk with Christ cannot make peace with the fire.
3. The Pharisees of Polish and Policy
“Woe to you… you are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but inside are full of dead men’s bones.” — Matthew 23:27
Some wear robes; some wear lanyards.
Both love the appearance of righteousness while resisting repentance.
They quote mission statements the way the Pharisees quoted law, forgetting that the law without love is lifeless.
They curate inclusion but exile conviction.
They reward allegiance but punish authenticity.
Yet Jesus still walks among them — not with a memo, but with mercy.
And He keeps asking: “Will you follow Me in the daylight or pretend you can thrive in twilight?”
4. The Lamp That Will Not Die
Ephesians 5 says, “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”
Exposure is not vengeance; it is illumination.
When you carry the Spirit of God, you become a walking lantern.
You do not have to argue with the dark — just refuse to dim.
Every time you pray instead of retaliate, light wins a square inch of territory.
Every time you speak truth in love, another corner of the Twilight Zone loses power.
The darkness cannot comprehend why you still glow, but Revelation reminds us:
“There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light.” — Revelation 22:5
5. Lot’s Wife in the Lobby
There is always the temptation to look back — to the salary, the security, the acceptance.
But remember Lot’s wife.
She looked back at a burning city and became a monument to hesitation.
Do not turn into salt for something God already set ablaze.
Keep walking forward, even if you walk alone.
Obedience is oxygen in toxic air.
6. The End of the Shift
One day this Twilight Shift will clock out.
Revelation promises a new dawn where the Lamb is the lamp and the tears are retired.
Until then, the faithful work the late hours — polishing hope, pouring grace, guarding the flame.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2
You may feel outnumbered, but you are never out-lighted.
The world says, “Blend in.” Heaven says, “Stand out.”
The world says, “Keep quiet.” The Spirit says, “Cry loud and spare not.”
7. A Word for the Remnant
If you have been mocked for your faith, misunderstood for your kindness, or mislabeled for your conviction, know this: you are not crazy — you are called.
You are the candle in the conference room, the intercessor in the hallway, the living proof that light still works.
“Awake, sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” — Ephesians 5:14
Closing Reflection
The Twilight Shift is not about the workplace; it is about the war for the soul.
It is the choice between fitting in and standing firm.
And though the nights grow darker, the promise stands unbroken:
Light always wins.
Prayer:
Lord, keep my lamp trimmed and burning.
Teach me to walk as a child of light in a world of counterfeit suns.
When the night deepens, let Your radiance rise in me.
Make me unafraid to stand, unashamed to shine, and unwavering until dawn.
